HANSEartWORKS 2021 Riga – Letland

Applicant’s Application for the Exhibition “Hanseatic New Gold” in the Exhibition Hall “Riga Art Space”

– The back canvas shows trees reaching with their branches towards the blue sky. More and more people think they know that trees communicate with each other. A child runs, is happy, has space to explore and grow.
– The middle canvas shows a flowing river, the IJssel, with a bridge over the river. The bridge symbolizes the exchange of thoughts and experiences. The bridge connects worlds. He stands for bigger thinking. Not just for your own environment, but for the cities, the country, the world. For the values we can offer each other. For the new gold. In this installation, too, the river is the connection between the front and rear canvas.

– The front canvas shows the dike along the river where there is room for flowers, insects, birds and people, to relax and enjoy nature.

These values represent to me the New Hanseatic – Gold.

Marijke Schellekens – Visual artist – Spatial work – Installations – Landart.

The pictures I take are the basis for my work. The photo(collages) are usually printed transparently on glass, plexiglass, 3D photo-glass blocks or transparent textiles.
Two or more (transparent) photos on a glass plate or on transparent textile, one after the other, give a 3d effect (like looking in a viewing box). My work is resistant to wind and weather. It is suitable for outdoor and indoor use.

I exhibited at various places in the Netherlands and abroad, including Bergen – Norway, Kaunas – Lithuania and Parnu – Estonia. Also in Botanical garden Meise near Brussels.
